By Michael McAfee

A comedy of errors takes John Smythe on an adventure he'll never forget through Ancient Greece Mythology. He will discover that the Ancient world of mythology isn't all that ancient.

John Smythe, a man of honor and trust, goes along with everything that is occurring about him on his misadventure with hopes of finding the truth. Armed with little more than a mind filled with factual data, a scientific mind, and a tenancy to faint when things aren't right, he'll manage to find himself, his true nature, and the love of the Goddess of Music.

Take a trip on the no so wild side and fall for John, he knows you will.

MY HONEST REVIEW OF A Backed Up John

John Smythe is an eccentric scientist. After an experiment blows up his apartment, he suddenly appears in Olympus, the mythological city of the gods. Zeus tasks him with following Hercules around to keep him out of trouble. When John notices different things from his time period that shouldn’t be there, he vows to get to the bottom of it. But can he do it without changing history?

This was an entertaining read about an oddball character on an imaginary adventure. John was a fun oddity, as well as the rest of the quirky characters. There were times that it was a bit hard to follow, but all in all, it was enjoyable.

The Butcher’s Boy Review

The Butcher's Boy

By Michael Robb Mathias

A 2011 Reader's Favorite Award Winner for Horror Fiction

The Butcher's Boy

A Paranormal/Murder-Mystery/Chiller

by Michael Robb

Thirty-one years ago, Buxly the Butcher went to trial for killing his entire family. Now Janet, a newly divorced nurse, has unknowingly purchased the place where it all took place.

What happens when her eleven year old son and their overprotective Rottweiler learn that the place is haunted by the victims of that grizzly act? Can young Michael fight through the madness and terror to figure out what really happened so long ago? If he does, maybe the tormented souls can be put to rest. If he fails, he just might become one of them. With only the help of his babysitter, a burned out house painter, and his dog, Lucy Fur, Michael is about to try. The problem is, not everyone is who they seem, even the dead.

***Content Warning: This is NOT the over-gory sort of thrasher-horror novel, but it does touch on some unsettling subject matter and should not be read by the squeamish, the easily offended, or children under the age of 18.

...........................................................................
MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Butcher's Boy

When Janet’s nasty divorce left her broke, she was overjoyed to find a house and job in another town. So happy, in fact, that she didn’t question why the house was so cheap. When her son Michael tells her that the house they moved into was the site of a brutal mass killing, and that he has seen ghosts of the victims, she is skeptic. But when a serial killer targets close to home, she discovers there’s more danger than mere ghosts. And with no funds to move, there is nothing she can do about it.

This plot read like a lifetime movie, i.e. single mother, young son, haunted house, and of course a serial killer on the loose. I liked how I got to know all of the characters, and not just the main ones. That’s what made it real to me. This story had plenty of twists to keep you guessing. Each time I was sure of the killer, something would change that. I like that type of read, it’s what keeps it interesting.

The Blue African Book Review

The Blue African (The Benwarian Chronicles Book 2)

By L.W. Samuelson

This novel was intended to be a thriller about viruses and governmental conspiracy. Just when it was about to get depressing, Porter Tellez popped into my head and took over. His spaceship lands in South Africa during the Soweto riots of 1975. Unarmed and alone, he tries to survive in a hostile environment. Neither black or white but blue, it is a difficult task.

Trying to understand the world around him, he discovers American television. With a skewed understanding of South African society, he enters the world of apartheid. He brings hope to the oppressed and harsh lessons to his enemies. Saved by the beautiful Loreto, he finds love and friendship.

Come let the blue African sing and dance his way into your heart. He'll color your world with laughter and adventure mixed in with a little intrigue.

...........................................................................
MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Blue African

When Porter Tellez landed on Earth, smack dab in the middle of Africa, his mission was to observe the earthlings, and send feedback to the mother ship. Instead, he became a part of the surrounding culture, becoming known as the blue man. But as Porter does his best to improve the status of his impoverished African friends, the deeper he gets involved in human nature and politics.

This being the first of the Porter Tellez series, and the second one that I have read, I enjoyed learning the backstory on Porter. He is a very likeable and funny character. Although, there was some very dark and graphic reading involved, there was plenty of humorous situations. My heart went out to this poor nation that was wronged by so many, and it was very satisfying when justice was meted out. I enjoy how this author gives detailed and realistic descriptions of surrounding scenery, no matter where the location is.

The Face on Mars is in the Mirror Review

The Face on Mars is in the Mirror

By RpWII

Transcendental poetry that tears the fabric of reality and reveals an ethereal battle of light versus darkness. A journey of liberation. Your hidden self awaits — if you dare. An eclectic book of poems, covering esoteric, political, romantic and spiritual subjects. An original collection of occult poetry. Over 250 original poems, 170 pages. Includes photos from the author's original notebooks!

...........................................................................
MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Face on Mars

Although the title insinuates that this is totally occult poetry, there are only a handful of poems on that topic. However, I did enjoy the few that were, as well as all the others. So many had inspiring verses to them, which kept me in an uplifting mood. I loved the ones that were written from a child’s memories. They were short, but simplistic from an innocent point of view. There were a few that could be construed as a song. In fact, I realized that I was reading them as if they were set to a musical rhythm.

I appreciated the author’s explanation of ghostly existence and manifestation. It gave me a different, but realistic perspective on the subject. I will be pondering on this reasoning for some time. One quote I thought repeatable was “If you ever have the misfortune of gaining everything, you will see you have absolutely nothing”.

Hi, I’m Éclair and I’m seven. My sister Meggie is two. When mom got sick we had to go live with Stella, my dad’s mom, the one with maroon colored hair. I begged Dad not to make us stay with her because she beat her horse and was going to eat her rooster, but he didn’t believe me. Even after I pretended I was going to barf, he left us with Stella.

So there we were, Meggie and me, on a strange pink farm with a skinny horse, a mean rooster, and Stinky Stella who had a living room filled with dead deer heads.

What would she do to us?

Would we end up on her wall too?

MY HONEST REVIEW OF Eclair goes Geocaching

Stella invites Éclair to go geocaching with her. She explains that it is hunting for a hidden treasure. Éclair misunderstands and believes that they will find gold, like a pirate’s treasure. She is very disappointed when they uncover the treasure in the cache. Stella has to explain to Éclair that the treasure is in the adventure.

This was a cute story, with hidden learning curves in it. I agree that the adventure is the true treasure. I have been geocaching before and enjoyed it immensely. I’m sure that this book can help draw children into the adventure of geocaching. It’s an experience they will remember.

MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Haunted Heart

On Meg’s 15th birthday, she had a vivid dream of being with a man she had never met before. Although it was just a dream, she never forgot him. Now, many years later, she is the wife of a political candidate. Then after an auto accident puts her in a coma, she gets another chance at her dream man. But is she in a coma, or is she truly living another life, with the man she never forgot.

Delia Colvin is back with another great time travel love story. I couldn’t put it down. At first, I was put off with Meg. She was so self-centered, you couldn’t feel sorry for her. When she changed her attitude was when it really got interesting. I love the way the story wrapped up, even though I would have liked it to play out in a series.
