One Last Dance Book Review

One Last Dance

By Ernesto Patino

One Last Dance by [Patino, Ernesto]
Marco Anissi comes out of a coma, days after his car slams into a light pole--the same pole he had crashed into exactly ten years ago, killing his fiancé, Susan. Coincidence? Not to him. Her spirit has reached out to him in a way he would understand. If it had happened on a different date, in a different place he would have missed it entirely. With the help of Susan's mother, Marco learns that a woman named Julia Tinsley had received her daughter's heart. She lives in Tucson where she works as a dance teacher. Obsessed with the idea of reconnecting with Susan's spirit, Marco travels to Tucson. But he can't just walk up to Julia and introduce himself. What would she think--a complete stranger wanting to meet her? He signs up for lessons, hoping to develop a relationship. Now, Marco must make a decision: tell the truth about himself and risk losing Julia with whom he's falling in love, or remain silent and enjoy his new life with her.

MY REVIEW OF One Last Dance

After Marco awakens in the hospital from being in a wreck, he believes it to be a sign from his dead fiancé Susan. When she died several years ago, her heart was donated to Julia Tinsley. Marco seeks out Julia, so he can verify that Susan’s soul is reaching out to him. Even though Marco has a brain tumor and needs surgery immediately, he puts it off while he gets to know Julia. In the meantime, Julia’s body begins rejecting her heart and she starts going downhill quickly. Marco doesn’t want to add to her stress by telling her about his tumor. He plans on spending all his free time with her as long as she lives. But how much longer can he ignore his own health problem?

I loved this poignant story between two people who overcame the odds against them by finding each other before it was too late. I, too, believe that everything happens for a reason. The plot had a good flow and was easy to follow. The characters were well-rounded and likeable. I was afraid of how this was going to end. It had me concerned that the outcome could change at any minute. The last chapter was certainly a surprise.
