Never Going Home Review

Never Going Home

By Brian Barton

Never Going Home by [Barton, Brian]
Clay Sonnering knows what he wants. He’s a commercial airline pilot at a busy international carrier who enjoys the pilot’s lifestyle—including the sexual interludes that go along with the career.

Sonnering’s life is on an upswing until an incident lands him in career crisis and he wanders into the crosshairs of a group who want him out of the picture. But Sonnering can’t stop thinking about his career—and sex—until a series of events turn him from a pleasure seeker into a man of dramatic action. Never Going Home is about one man’s search for truth.

MY REVIEW

Junior Captain Clay Sonnering has been a pilot for RASH Airlines for nearly twenty years. With his exemplary service, he is hoping to be promoted from Junior to Senior Captain as soon as a spot comes open. Now, as he finally has enough time in, he finds himself in a takeoff incident that could hinder his promotion. How could this happen to him at such a crucial time in his life? Clay now has to prove he is mentally fit enough to keep his job.

This story was at times a bit hard to follow. It went back and forth between characters and incidents, and sometimes I wasn’t sure if something was actually happening now, or if it was a memory. I liked the plot, but the story didn’t hold my interest for very long. Some conversations didn’t make sense to me, and at times, I didn’t know if Clay was sane or not. This is the third book by this author that I have read. I only wish that this book had been as good as the other two. I will continue to read more from Mr. Barton as I know he’s a good writer. I’m just disappointed with this one.
