How To Get More From Your Pinterest Feed

I absolutely love Pinterest. I compare it to relaxing with a favorite magazine or catalog. The only difference is that Pinterest is focused specifically on my likes, with no ads or prices to clutter and distract me.

I'll assume you all know how to navigate Pinterest already. You just do a search for the things and people you like, and then follow the boards that interest you.

Recently, I discovered another way to find pins and boards related to an interest instead of having to do a word search.

This is an example of the word search. I'll do a search for "quilling", and this is what I get:

Pins related only to quilling. If you will notice the top left, there is a choice of Pins, Boards, and Pinners. It seems to search by pins as default. I can scroll through endless pins on this page. Now, if I click Boards, this is what I get:

I think you get the picture. The problem with the search method is that it only brings up the word you searched and nothing else.

Now to the other way I have found to do this. It's more focused, and doesn't mess with your feed. Plus you are able to see other versions of your subject. For example, quilled cards (or anything), filigree, 3-D quilling, and so on.

Refresh your feed. Now scroll down until you find something you would like to pin. Click on it and this is what you get:

At this point, you can go ahead and pin the image to your chosen board, but stay on this page for the time being.  Scroll down and you will see this:

It shows the person you pinned from, and the board to which they had pinned it. You should already be following the board, and possibly the person.

Below that, there is a list of other boards where the image has been pinned. Notice that the names are not just Quilling. You can follow any or all of them. After those you will see a bar that says SEE MORE BOARDS.  You can click this as many times as you want for more selections.

Last, you will see RELATED PINS. You can scroll through and pin as many as you desire. Also, you can restart this same process with any pin page you get.

When you tire of this subject, all you have to do is back up to your main feed, and continue your browsing. Or, just click on the Pinterest logo to update your feed.

One word of caution: If you follow two many of the same boards, you will start to get duplicates of pins. If that happens, just click on a few of the duplicates and unfollow them. It's as simple as that.

Handy Tip #9

This tip is about getting the most from a product.

Have you ever noticed how an empty box of washing powders still has a lot of good smell to it. There's no sense letting this go to waste.

First, I tear the top off, and open the bottom seam. At this point, you may have a small amount of washing powders left. I just pour this into my washer to wait for the next load of clothes.

I then tear the side seam open.

Now, tear all the way across.

Then tear into smaller squares.

At this point, I throw all the pieces into the dryer with my load of wet clothes.

Of course, I add fabric softener sheets too.

Just another way to get more smell into my clothes, without any more cost, and it doesn't hurt the clothes. I usually can do this 2 or 3 times before the pieces no longer smell. At that point, I just throw them away.

What do you think? Would you do this?

Truth Be Told Book Tour

Truth Be Told: Adam Becomes AudreyMeeting the man of your dreams, falling in love and getting married. It sounds like every woman’s dream. But what if you suddenly found out that your husband self-identified as and wanted to become a woman? That’s exactly what happened to Connecticut-based reporter Alexandra Bogdanovic.

As the daughter of music and television icons, Sonny and Cher, Chastity Bono grew up in the public eye. So it was shocking to people everywhere when she became Chaz. Her decision to “become” a man made headlines around the world, but Bono is not alone. Transgender men and women frequently appear on television talk shows and reality programs to share their stories. In doing so, they inevitably get the attention they seek; although it may not always be the kind of attention they want.

While many come forth in an effort to promote tolerance, acceptance and understanding in mainstream society, their decision to live as – or in some cases have surgery to become – the opposite gender often sparks curiosity and visceral reactions born from ignorance.

Truth Be Told: Adam Becomes Audrey, a new book from author Alexandra Bogdanovic, tells the other side of the story. Part tragedy, part comedy, part love story, the book tells the story of the author’s real life experience of meeting a man, falling in love, getting married and finding out her husband wanted to become a woman. This book is the story of what happened after she learned the truth.

Alexandra Bogdanovic was born in Bronxville, N.Y. and grew up in Greenwich, Conn. She knew she wanted to be a reporter at age 12, and received her first byline in the Greenwich Time when she was a high school freshman. By the time she graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1987, she'd been covering high school sports for a daily newspaper for four years. In 1991, Bogdanovic graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in writing. She officially began her journalism career as an editorial assistant at The Advocate in Stamford, Conn., soon after graduation.

She then decided to devote her efforts to community journalism in order to have a more direct and meaningful impact in the towns and villages where she worked. One of her greatest challenges while working in Rye was covering the mutual aid response and local reaction to the Terrorist Attacks of September 11.

The veteran reporter is now a freelance writer. She enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, chilling with her cat, Eli and watching and photographing high-goal polo.
