As a cancer survivor, Jules Steele knows better than to count on seeing tomorrow. She doesn't take a single moment for granted, and she isn’t about to let a man who used to be charming and full of life waste the future he’s been blessed with. Guest book review by Carly Louise Wilson
My True Love is the exciting second book in the Steele’s at Silver Island series by Melissa Foster, and I was lucky to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Every time I think Foster has excelled herself, she conjures two more equally charming and fascinating characters for me to become obsessed with, and from the moment I heard about Grant Silver and Jules Steele, I knew this book was going to be special.

Grant is an ex soldier, who was wounded at war and has returned to Silver Island. He is brooding, angry at life and his situation, and feels like he’s had his dream and future cruelly snatched away from him. He’s reclusive, avoids socialising and is very much determined to leave the island as soon as he’s able to figure out a plan. But like all good romances, there’s a darling heroine in the form of Jules Steele to twist and change his mind.

Jules is a ray of sunshine, she’s an eternal optimist and a true-to-life pixie who casts a magical spell on Grant and enchants him. She is desperate for Grant to see all he has left in his life, reminding him of how much his family care about him, and how much she enjoys spending time with him. She decides in true pixie fashion to leave him little gifts, attempting to coax him back into the hobbies and pastimes he’s loved. It’s sweet and endearing and creates a real depth to their romance.

I loved the sweet romantic tension between Grant and Jules. It felt like both were physically missing a part of themselves to be able to emotionally be whole with one another. Grant allows his walls to fall, and Jules fully opens her heart and trusts him to do right by her. She doesn’t see his injury or his disability, she sees a man she loves, and their love is deep and meaningful in all the best ways.

Grant and Jules are both inspirational characters in their own right, one an amputee struggling to come to terms with a new way of living, the other a cancer survivor who knows how important life can be and is determined to grasp it in both hands and not dwell on the negatives. This book left me with that all encompassing warm fuzzy feeling and I was completely smitten with their love story.

This is the perfect read for those who love real intricate and heartfelt romances, and not to mention on fire chemistry. Connections run deep in all of Foster’s books, and once you read one I can guarantee you will end up binge reading.

In TEMPTED BY LOVE…
Years ago, bestselling author Jack “Jock” Steele lost his girlfriend and baby in a horrific accident that drove a wedge between Jock and his family, keeping him from sharing a devastating secret. An aging philanthropist saved him from the brink of despair, and for a decade Jock cared for his ailing friend who became his family. Now his friend has passed away and left him a fortune—on the condition that he publishes another book. Jock is floundering, unsure how to rebuild the life he’d walked away from, much less find his muse, have another relationship with a woman, or even think about having a family of his own. But he can’t get his sweet, sexy new friend, single-mother Daphne Zablonski out of his head, and her adorable toddler must know something he doesn’t, because she wraps her tiny fingers around his heart and won’t let go.

Daphne has been through the wringer with her ex-husband and doesn’t believe true love is in the cards for her. Friends she can handle, but letting a man see her mom bod naked? Especially someone as strikingly handsome and unbelievably sexy as Jock? No, thank you. Besides, she has a toddler to chase after and enough fictional boyfriends to fill her lonely nights. If only her book boyfriends could make her body tingle the way one look from her mysterious neighbor does.

As Jock and Daphne’s friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then there’s that secret…

Guest book review - Lost But Found: A Boy's Journey of Grief and Recovery by Lauren Persons (Author), Noah Hrbek (Illustrator)

Lost But Found: A Boy's Story of Grief and Recovery deals with one of the toughest issues a parent may ever have to face--explaining to a child that a loved one has died. Often, to protect them, children are left out of the grieving process. This book allows adults to travel with a young boy as he works to make sense of his loss--and, in turn, their own.

I wrote this book to allow children to ask questions, and talk about their fears and feelings. What I have found is that often children have better insights on these hard life questions than the adults in the room!

Reviews for Lost But Found: A Boy's Story of Grief and Recovery
"The endearing simplicity and musicality of Lauren's words burst with unspoken emotion, leaving room for every child's experience. Noah's illustrations portray tender human contact, comforting young readers and the families who love them." -- Pegi Deitz Shea, award-winning children's book author

"Lost But Found is a sweet book with beautiful pictures that tackles grief at a developmental level for a very young child. The ambiguous term "to lose" somebody is demystified, as a young boy comes to understand what happened to his father, and how their connection lives on." -- Laurie Zelinger, PhD, ABPP, RPT-S, Board Certified Psychologist and author, former Director of New York Association for Play Therapy

"Lost But Found is a brief story that faces a difficult and important topic--the loss of a parent. The story provides a two-pronged approach a caregiver can use as a starting point to approach this delicate topic with a child: a sense of perspective and hope for the future, and the idea that we, as children, can find "pieces" of our parents around us and inside us. I appreciate the incentive to reflect on and remember who the lost parent was and how he lives on through his child." -- Isabella Cassina, MA, TP-S, CAGS, PhD Student, Project Manager, Trainer and Continuing Education Program Administrator (CEPA), INA International Academy for Play Therapy studies and PsychoSocial Projects

"The story of Lost But Found is written to help children understand the loss of a loved one. It is never easy to talk with a child about this subject, and the author provides a tender, truthful and believable story. It is written from the heart and will serve as a conversation starter in assisting a child's understanding of the grieving process. In addition, the beautiful illustrations provide the reader a sense that they are embraced and one with the story. I highly recommend this book for children and adults." -- Linda Cohen, Elementary School Principal

"At any age, understanding death is confusing and complex. It is especially so for children. In Lost But Found, author Lauren Persons gently removes some of the mystery around loss and invites children into a comforting conversation around lasting belonging and hope. Illustrations by Noah Hrbek enrich this tender and much-needed children's book." -- Holli Kenley, author of Power Down & Parent Up and Pilates For Parenting

"Knowing Lauren Persons for over 20 years (and happily counting) this children's book reflects a genuine heart full of emotion and love. If all people faced with difficulties had the courage and the dignity and the grace that Lauren Persons has, our world would be a better place for our children to live." --John Mascia, elementary school teacher

"With simple, accessible words and drawings, Lost But Found perfectly captures the experience of loss, and the power of memory and love." -- Amy N. Ship

Guest book review by Carly Louise Wilson
Lost But Found: A Boy’s Story Of Grief and Recovery, is the beautifully illustrated story by Laura Persons.

The book was written to help address and converse with children around the difficult topic of losing a loved one and death. It is a very short read, written in rhyming to make it easier to stick in your head and the illustrations are eye-catching and captivating.

Reading the context in which the book was written added a real personal touch to the story, and the importance of why it needed to be composed. Sometimes as adults we potentially try and mask things in the world to protect children, when they are naturally inquisitive, and more capable of understanding things than we realise. It held a cute message around a parent no longer being actively present, but can be found around and moments and acts of kindness. It certainly gave me food for thought as an adult, and I loved the intended message or enabling a child to realise that life can and does go on, and essentially it is the circle of life.

Lauren Persons and Noah Hrbek
I did not start talking until I was two. and once I started talking, I never stopped. Making up for lost time, I had much to say with great gusto. For my verbal skills, the title, Sarah Bernhardt, the famous French actress, was bestowed on me by my family. From that time on, I played many roles, on and off stage-actor, newspaper columnist, teacher, writer, drama coach, director, playwright, wife, mother. Of all the parts I have had a chance to play, the role of grandmother is the best. This role puts me front and center to write, create characters, tell stories and act!

Noah Hrbek, the illustrator of Lost But Found, has been the perfect pARTner. Besides being wildly creative, he is a devoted dad and uncle. He can tap into his exuberant, child-like innocence, tempered with the vagrancies of life, and create spot-on, touching, memorable images.

Guest book review - Dos Idiomas, One Me: A Bilingual Reader by Maggy Williams (Author), Briana Arrington (Illustrator)

Dos Idiomas, One Me is the story of a young girl who feels torn between two languages. At home, she speaks Spanish, at school, she speaks English, and she finds herself resenting the fact that she has to translate her thoughts and feelings. Then, she realizes that being bilingual is a gift. She begins to have fun navigating the space of inclusivity and starts to relish the role of teacher and translator.

By equally incorporating Spanish and English, Dos Idiomas, One Me promotes biliteracy. As young readers see their experiences reflected in the story of another dual-language speaker, they can feel encouraged to embrace all aspects of themselves.

“A charming book depicting bicultural identity. Maggy Williams takes the reader into the struggle and joy a child experiences while not feeling ni de aquí, ni de allá, and yet from both sides.” – Anel Duarte, artist and poet

“Such a unique, inspiring story that captures the heart within seconds of reading! A powerful, dynamic rendition of what it means to be a bilingual child. Every family should read it!” – Sabrina Suarez, artist, advocate, and community leader

– Irma Erichsen, author and artist

“Dos Idiomas, One Me illustriously guides young readers and their grownups towards understanding that differences make us unique and special. Beautifully written!” – AnnaMarie Jones, co-creator of the Demystifying Diversity Podcast.

Guest book review by Carly Louise Wilson
Dos Idiomas, One Me : A Bilingual reader is a book written and designed for children who are bilingual and struggling to tackle speaking their native tongue at home, and then being thrust into the world of school etc and having to switch to a second language.

It turns a negative into a positive, and shows children how special it is to be able to have the ability to teach others to speak and know a different language, and how to be proud and embrace being bilingual.

As someone who is British, we don’t have much of an opportunity to learn languages as children, and I found it hard and daunting as a teenager in secondary school to wrap my head around learning German. So to be a child who perhaps has a differing native tongue around those predominantly speaking one particular language, I can only imagine how scary and unsettling it must be. It can be pretty isolating, and to know that makes this book so important and thought provoking.

I wish I had the ability to be multi-lingual, so this book is an excellent representation of how special it is to be gifted in being able to know and translate languages.

The illustrations are eye catching and thought provoking, making it the ideal read for children to reference.

Maggy Williams started writing at five years old and hasn’t stopped since. She loves creating stories for young readers because they have the best imaginations and because she never wants to grow up.
