The Fall and Rise of Cain Review

The Fall and Rise of Cain

By Greg T. Nelson

The Fall and Rise of Cain by [Nelson, Greg T.]
In the tradition of Sam Spade, Phillip Marlow and Travis Magee The Fall and Rise of Cain is a modern day Mystery Thriller. Retired in disgrace, Houston Police Detective, Richard Cain, left the Department when a brutal ambush crippled him and killed his partner. Two years after the gunfight that broke his body and spirit he is called back to the town that turned it's back on him. He must know who was responsible for his shattered life and lost friend. Seeking the help of his ex-wife and former comrades Cain rekindles love for her and seeks to solve the complex mystery that took everything from him.

Two years ago Richard Cain was in a shootout with a group of Russian criminals. His partner Judith Granger was killed in the shootout. Cain barely survived and was left with two years of physical therapy and a bum leg. Out of the blue, Cain gets a request from Judith’s dad to come back to Houston and hear him out, but about what, Cain doesn’t know. Then before he even leaves, Cain is attacked by a guy that he had sent to prison years ago. Coincidence? Cain doesn’t believe in coincidence. Someone doesn’t want him to return to Houston. But Cain had left Houston with a lot of unanswered questions. That didn’t bother him so much then, but now he’s ready to find the answers.

I liked Cain from the start. His character had a strength that was enough to carry anything that could happen to him. I especially liked Katy. The chemistry between them was unmistakable. It would have been nice to have Judith alive through more of the story. Even so, I felt the bond of her and Cain easily. All the friends from Cain’s past was an interesting part of the story. Even with the darkness uncovered in the investigation this story had a positive vibe to it.

Autumn Secrets Book Review

Autumn Secrets (Seasons Pass Book 4)

By Susan C. Muller

Autumn Secrets (Seasons Pass Book 4) by [Muller, Susan C.]
The harvest moon has arrived and homicide detective Noah Daugherty is drawn into a new and harrowing case when the search for clues leads him to the middle of a killing field. Desperate, he enlists the help of a woman from his past. Together they discover a serial killer, hell bent on reaping his own depraved version of social sanitation.

As Noah continues his urgent search for justice, the demented madman seems to stay one step ahead, taunting him and threatening everyone he holds dear.

Can Noah put a stop to the killing, or will he be buried along with autumn's secrets?

A Detective Noah Daugherty novel.

Houston Detectives Noah Daugherty and his partner Conner Crawford have each returned from well-deserved vacations only to be sent out to investigate the discovery of two female bodies found in the same vicinity. The field where the second body was found was mushy from the recent rains and had caused the body to surface. As Noah and Conner walk the field for clues, Noah accidentally sinks in the mud and uncovers another body. Upon closer inspection, it turns out there’s two bodies buried there, not one. Evidently Houston has a serial killer on the loose and they have just uncovered his killing field.

I enjoyed following Noah and Conner through their investigations. This series shows the dark, secretive side of human nature that is rarely seen, with this chapter being darker than the others. The tension was palpable and the secrets kept everyone on edge, including me. I liked the spattering of humor included throughout. One thing I didn’t understand though, was about the first body being found in a building. It didn’t make sense to me that the killer changed his mode of disposal. There should have been a reason for it. I felt this should have been addressed, but it was never mentioned.

Truly, Madly, Whiskey Tour and Giveaway

A new, emotionally riveting, sexy standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster. Watch mysteriously sexy Bear Whiskey claw his way to his happily ever after with sassy, rebellious Crystal Moon.

Eight months is a long damn time to have the hots for a woman who keeps a guy at arm’s length. But Crystal Moon is no ordinary woman. She’s a sinfully sexy, sass-mouthed badass, and the subject of Bear Whiskey’s midnight fantasies. She’s also one of his closest friends.

Just when Crystal thinks she has her life under control, scorching-hot, possessive, aggressive, and fiercely loyal Bear pushes all her sexual buttons, relentless in his pursuit to make her his.

The more Bear pushes, the hotter their passion burns, unearthing memories for Crystal that are best kept buried. But there’s no stopping the collision of her past and present, catapulting the two lovers down an emotionally charged road that has them questioning all they thought they knew about themselves.

Bear Whiskey had been relentlessly pursuing Crystal Moon for the last eight months, but she had dismissed him at every turn. He knew that he just needed to bide his time, and eventually Crystal will accept him. What Bear doesn’t know though, is that Crystal had a traumatic experience in her past that she hasn’t been able to totally overcome. But what Bear wants, Bear gets, and he’ll do whatever it takes to chip away Crystal’s barriers.

I loved this couple so much. It was easy to see Crystal slowly blossoming. And Bear was just as translucent, wearing his heart on his big, sexy, tatted sleeve. The entire Whiskey clan was loyal to a fault. It’s going to be fun reading each of their stories. I think Bear will stay my favorite Whiskey, but who knows what the other stories will bring.
