Quilled Butterfly

This is my first attempt at quilling a butterfly.

I used the comb method.  Didn't turn out too bad.  I may do a tutorial on it later.

By the way, that's a silhouette of me when I was in the fourth grade, back in the 60's if you can believe that.

Hope you have a nice Labor Day!

My Chickens

We hatched 10 baby chickens back in April.

They were raised in a hamster cage. This is them around 3 weeks old under their heat lamp.  The one on the roost was the last one to hatch.  I called him Baby.

This was around 6 weeks old.  I was letting them roam outside during the daytime, and brought back in at night.  There came a downpour with lightning and they didn't like it.

Last month I lost 3 of them to a raccoon.  It broke my heart, especially since it was my fault.  I had left their door open after dark.  Then a couple of weeks ago, one disappeared during the day.

These are the 6 that I have left. They are now 20 weeks old.  I've read that they can start laying eggs now.  I hope so.

These are my 2 roosters.

This one is named Spot. Obviously.

And this is Baby.  He's not so small any more.  In fact, he's as big as Spot.

This is their pen.  I lock them in overnight and the next morning they are looking out waiting for me to open it no matter how early I am.

The pen gets rolled to a different spot every few days.

And believe it or not, they are all Road Island Reds.  So where does the white and speckled come from?

They are my babies, and will follow me all around the yard.  Spot will come running when I call his name.  I didn't know how much fun they could be.

I highly suggest you try it out sometime!

Guilt Will Get You Every Time!

When you look outside and feel guilty about your yard, you go outside and start to work....

When you go outside and work, you find grass that needs moving to a bare spot....

When you find grass that needs moving to a bare spot, you take a shovel and dig....

When you shovel and dig, you slip on a mud spot....

When you slip on a mud spot, you fall on your shovel....

When you fall on your shovel, you get a black eye....

Don't look outside and feel guilty about your yard!!!

Quilled Monogram

I have a niece who graduated this year.  For a graduation gift, I thought I would try a quilled monogram to frame and hang on her wall.

For the monogram, I turned to Jenny at For Chic Sake.  She was sweet enough to have a monogram pattern to download for free.  All I had to do was change the initials and print.

Easy peasy!  I gathered the rest of my supplies.

I started with the middle letter.  I apologize for the blurry looking pics, but this white just would not photo right.  Believe me, these were the best I could get.

Several hours later, a finished product.

I think I will try my initials next.

Lunchtime

Do you know what this is?

Why, it's the best summer food on the planet!

Fried bologna with fresh picked tomato sandwich!

Ahh, the life...
