Long Ago and Far Away Review

Long Ago and Far Away

By Robert Joseph

An exciting coming-of-age story reminiscent of CATCHER IN THE RYE set in the last days of World War II which will thrill modern teens and remind older readers of their youth.

***MY HONEST REVIEW OF LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY***

When Toby spends the summer with his Aunt Leyla at a mountain resort in the Poconos, he meets Ursula. Leyla has been contracted as lead soprano in the local opera company. Since Ursula is in the chorus, Toby agrees to be in the opera, so that he can be near her, and also to keep an eye on his aunt like his uncle is paying him to do. At 15 years old, Toby is still very innocent in love and relationships, but this will be the summer that changes that.

Toby seemed to constantly be between a rock and a hard spot. I loved his innocence and loyalty. It took me back to the freedom of youth, and friendships I made growing up. There’s always that summer that defines you. I think that was the idea behind this plot, and it was very successful in taking me there.
