Year of the Crystal Children Review

Year of the Crystal Children

By E.M. Chandler

What would you do if you suspected that a secret experiment was being conducted on you and your friends at school? Would you gather evidence? Would you protest?

Teen activist Bailey is shocked to discover a tiny implant in her best friend's scalp and men in gas masks injecting a strange liquid into the food in the cafeteria. Determined to find out what is going on, Bailey and her friends formulate a plan to secretly record and expose the project. Their adventurous quest turns into a dangerous game of drones as they encounter bizarre military exercises, a monstrous underground tunnel, and a cunning mountain boy named Shadow.

Year of the Crystal Children, a story that reflects current events, is a about uncovering the truth - at any cost.

***MY HONEST REVIEW OF Year of the Crystal***

When Bailey accidentally stumbles upon strange men injecting something into the fruit in the school cafeteria, she gets arrested and sent to the Pine Farm Center, a local rehab for kids. While there, she and her new friends uncover further conspiracy involving the government, on property adjacent to the center. But if they are to be believed, they must get proof. It’s the only way that Bailey can clear herself of the charges against her. And in doing so puts Bailey in more danger than she anticipates.

This was a charming read with a plot that had me wondering “what if”. It had a good flow to it with endearing characters. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the kids at the center. I feel that there were too many questions left unanswered though. It left some parts confusing without those answers. I also liked the discussion questions at the end of the book. They helped to put this subject in perspective.
