My True Love is the exciting second book in the Steele’s at Silver Island series by Melissa Foster, and I was lucky to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Every time I think Foster has excelled herself, she conjures two more equally charming and fascinating characters for me to become obsessed with, and from the moment I heard about Grant Silver and Jules Steele, I knew this book was going to be special.

Grant is an ex soldier, who was wounded at war and has returned to Silver Island. He is brooding, angry at life and his situation, and feels like he’s had his dream and future cruelly snatched away from him. He’s reclusive, avoids socialising and is very much determined to leave the island as soon as he’s able to figure out a plan. But like all good romances, there’s a darling heroine in the form of Jules Steele to twist and change his mind.

Jules is a ray of sunshine, she’s an eternal optimist and a true-to-life pixie who casts a magical spell on Grant and enchants him. She is desperate for Grant to see all he has left in his life, reminding him of how much his family care about him, and how much she enjoys spending time with him. She decides in true pixie fashion to leave him little gifts, attempting to coax him back into the hobbies and pastimes he’s loved. It’s sweet and endearing and creates a real depth to their romance.

I loved the sweet romantic tension between Grant and Jules. It felt like both were physically missing a part of themselves to be able to emotionally be whole with one another. Grant allows his walls to fall, and Jules fully opens her heart and trusts him to do right by her. She doesn’t see his injury or his disability, she sees a man she loves, and their love is deep and meaningful in all the best ways.

Grant and Jules are both inspirational characters in their own right, one an amputee struggling to come to terms with a new way of living, the other a cancer survivor who knows how important life can be and is determined to grasp it in both hands and not dwell on the negatives. This book left me with that all encompassing warm fuzzy feeling and I was completely smitten with their love story.

This is the perfect read for those who love real intricate and heartfelt romances, and not to mention on fire chemistry. Connections run deep in all of Foster’s books, and once you read one I can guarantee you will end up binge reading.

Lost But Found: A Boy’s Story Of Grief and Recovery, is the beautifully illustrated story by Laura Persons.

The book was written to help address and converse with children around the difficult topic of losing a loved one and death. It is a very short read, written in rhyming to make it easier to stick in your head and the illustrations are eye-catching and captivating.

Reading the context in which the book was written added a real personal touch to the story, and the importance of why it needed to be composed. Sometimes as adults we potentially try and mask things in the world to protect children, when they are naturally inquisitive, and more capable of understanding things than we realise. It held a cute message around a parent no longer being actively present, but can be found around and moments and acts of kindness. It certainly gave me food for thought as an adult, and I loved the intended message or enabling a child to realise that life can and does go on, and essentially it is the circle of life.

I did not start talking until I was two. and once I started talking, I never stopped. Making up for lost time, I had much to say with great gusto. For my verbal skills, the title, Sarah Bernhardt, the famous French actress, was bestowed on me by my family. From that time on, I played many roles, on and off stage-actor, newspaper columnist, teacher, writer, drama coach, director, playwright, wife, mother. Of all the parts I have had a chance to play, the role of grandmother is the best. This role puts me front and center to write, create characters, tell stories and act!

Dos Idiomas, One Me : A Bilingual reader is a book written and designed for children who are bilingual and struggling to tackle speaking their native tongue at home, and then being thrust into the world of school etc and having to switch to a second language.

It turns a negative into a positive, and shows children how special it is to be able to have the ability to teach others to speak and know a different language, and how to be proud and embrace being bilingual.

As someone who is British, we don’t have much of an opportunity to learn languages as children, and I found it hard and daunting as a teenager in secondary school to wrap my head around learning German. So to be a child who perhaps has a differing native tongue around those predominantly speaking one particular language, I can only imagine how scary and unsettling it must be. It can be pretty isolating, and to know that makes this book so important and thought provoking.

I wish I had the ability to be multi-lingual, so this book is an excellent representation of how special it is to be gifted in being able to know and translate languages.

The illustrations are eye catching and thought provoking, making it the ideal read for children to reference.
