Ride the Neural Network continues the chronicles of the Benwarians, an alien race from a distant planet who seek to make Earth their home. Travis and his nephew devise a plan to rescue Logan’s father from Robben Island Prison. Before they can do so, Travis must save Windy’s soul by excising her traumatic memories. 

Travis studies human behavior and psychology and learns how to affect the mind and emotions while Logan learns to mind travel. The two of them use their knowledge to help Windy. With their newly acquired skills, they attempt to free Porter. When Travis uses the prison staff’s Christian beliefs to manipulate and distract them, he makes a mind shattering discovery. 

This story can be understood without reading the previous novels. It is a frank examination of Christianity, the human mind, and gun violence wrapped in an exciting story of friendship and duty.

MY REVIEW OF Ride the Neural Networks

Travis is a Benwarian alien living in Arizona. The ranch that he owns, he got from Glen and Virginia, Windy’s parents. Windy accuses Travis of stealing it from her. It takes Travis and his nephew, Logan, time and a bit of alien chicanery to get to the root of Windy’s self-destructive personality, and free her to become a loving asset to the ranch family. Once he completes that task, he and Logan must set off to Africa to find and free Porter Tellez, Logan’s dad, who has been imprisoned for several years. To do that, they will have to face the devil himself.

This is the continuing story of the blue aliens who came to make Earth their home. I have enjoyed each story of these lovable and quirky characters. This one though, was darker in context than any of the others. It stayed fast paced, and as always, gave realistic descriptions of the indigenous scenery and wildlife. I liked how Christianity was explored so accurately. This author has a very likeable writing style that keeps you riveted and begging for more. I never thought I would end up liking Windy, but with this author, you can always expect to be entertained to the end.

This novel was intended to be a thriller about viruses and governmental conspiracy. Just when it was about to get depressing, Porter Tellez popped into my head and took over. His spaceship lands in South Africa during the Soweto riots of 1975. Unarmed and alone, he tries to survive in a hostile environment. Neither black or white but blue, it is a difficult task.

Trying to understand the world around him, he discovers American television. With a skewed understanding of South African society, he enters the world of apartheid. He brings hope to the oppressed and harsh lessons to his enemies. Saved by the beautiful Loreto, he finds love and friendship. 

Come let the blue African sing and dance his way into your heart. He'll color your world with laughter and adventure mixed in with a little intrigue.

MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Blue African

When Porter Tellez landed on Earth, smack dab in the middle of Africa, his mission was to observe the earthlings, and send feedback to the mother ship. Instead, he became a part of the surrounding culture, becoming known as the blue man. But as Porter does his best to improve the status of his impoverished African friends, the deeper he gets involved in human nature and politics.

This being the first of the Porter Tellez series, and the second one that I have read, I enjoyed learning the backstory on Porter. He is a very likeable and funny character. Although, there was some very dark and graphic reading involved, there was plenty of humorous situations. My heart went out to this poor nation that was wronged by so many, and it was very satisfying when justice was meted out. I enjoy how this author gives detailed and realistic descriptions of surrounding scenery, no matter where the location is.

The refugee learns to break horses and gains notoriety as a horse whisperer. Soon the stranger and rancher develop a deeply abiding friendship. The old man and his wife come to depend on Travis as they age and become helpless. They devise a plan to deed their ranch to him until their daughter finds out. She allies herself with a wealthy land owner and together they try to prove the old rancher and his wife are incompetent and that Windy, the daughter, should be given power of attorney for her parents. As the battle ensues, the old couple's health deteriorates. Who will prevail in Travis's attempt to find sanctuary? Is blood thicker than water or do those who care for you constitute family? This story, at times poignant, at times humorous, explores family, ranch life, and a friendship between two people from different worlds.

***MY HONEST REVIEW OF The Verde Sanctuary***

While running from the law, Travis accidentally ends up at a ranch owned by Glenn and Virginia. He never hid the fact that he was an alien. They didn’t seem to care. It soon became apparent that the older couple needed Travis as much as he needed them. As he becomes further integrated into this caring family, he realizes that he has found his perfect sanctuary.

This was a fun, zany read. With a plot that takes place on a ranch, it gave the story a bit of a western feel. A cowboy alien? It was different and unexpected. I absolutely loved getting to know these quirky and endearing characters, and their crazy lives. There were enough laugh out loud moments to keep me begging for more. I will definitely continue this series.
