Saving Grace Book Review

Saving Grace: (Enchanted Keepsakes)

By Aubrey Wynne

Saving Grace: (Enchanted Keepsakes) by [Wynne, Aubrey]
The ghost of the Pungo Witch meets a shattered heart.
Jackson Hahn, Virginia Beach's local historian, has his eyes on the mysterious new woman in town. When she enters his office, he is struck by her haunting beauty and the raw pain in her eyes. Her descriptions of the odd events happening in her bungalow pique his curiosity.

Chloe Hicks' life consisted of an egocentric ex-husband, a pile of bills, and an equine business in foreclosure until a fire destroys the stable and her beloved ranch horse. What little hope she has left is smashed after the marshal suspects arson. She escapes the accusing eyes of her hometown, but not the memories and melancholy.

The sexy historian distracts Chloe with the legend of a woman wrongly accused of witchcraft. She is drawn to the story and the similarities of events that plagued their lives. Perhaps the past can help heal the present. But danger lurks in the shadows...

MY REVIEW

Chloe had divorced her overbearing, abusive husband Mike, moved on, and had started her own horse stables business. Now three years later, her business was finally positioned to start making money. And then her barn burns down. She and her trainer Paul are hurt saving the horses, but worse than that, her ex-husband shows up, trying to weasel his way back into her life. With some time to spare, Paul sends Chloe out of state to his property in Virginia, to hide from Mike while everything blows over. Chloe quickly discovers that Paul’s property holds a secret. A discovery that will link Chloe’s present to someone in the past.

I love the way the author mixes true historical events into present stories. It gives it a unique and interesting flair. I felt so sorry for Grace and her kids, and also Chloe’s situation. Otherwise, it was a fun read. The characters were endearing and well-rounded. It was not hard to picture the events happening. This story had so many different elements going on, but none were overpowering. I have read several stories from this author, and I’ve never been disappointed in any of them. When history is included, you can tell that it has been well-researched.

Rolfs Quest Book Review

Rolf's Quest (A Medieval Encounter Book 1)

By Aubrey Wynne

Rolf's Quest (A Medieval Encounter Book 1) by [Wynne, Aubrey]
A wizard, a curse, a fated love…
When Rolf finally discovers the woman who can end the curse that has plagued his family for centuries, she is already betrothed. Time is running out for the royal wizard of King Henry II. If he cannot find true love without the use of sorcery, the magic will die for future generations.

Melissa is intrigued by the mystical, handsome man that haunts her by night and tempts her by day. His bizarre tale of Merlin, enchantments, and finding genuine love has her questioning his sanity and her heart.

From the moment Melissa stepped from his dreams and into his arms, Rolf knew she was his destiny. Now, he will battle against time, a powerful duke, and call on the gods to save her.

MY REVIEW

Merlin had been cursed because he cast a spell on the one he loved to make her fall in love with him. The only one that can break the curse is a first born son of Merlin’s descendants. That task has fallen on Rolf’s shoulders. He must find true love without the use of sorcery or deceit. That will be easy because he knows who she is as he has dreamed of her for many years. The hard part though is that when Melissa finally enters his life, she is already betrothed. Will Rolf be able to woo Melissa before time runs out for Merlin?

Ah, true love! This was a sweet love story, but with evil overtones, I loved the innocence of the main characters. I enjoy stories with head strong female characters, and that definitely described Melissa. Even the surrounding characters were endearing. This author has a way of drawing you into the story, I felt like I was part of the day to day activities that were going on, and it was comforting. And I thought the comparison of love to a growing foal was perfect. This was an enjoyable, fairly short, historical romance that leaves you with a feel good outlook.

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

Joss and her sister Laura grew up in Papua, New Guinea, but their family moved to Chicago for Laura to attend a prestigious University. Nine months later, Joss’ mother died in a car accident. Now, nearly a year later, Joss still avoids social activities. When her best friend Becky invites Joss to a party that her brother Ben is giving, she initially turns her down. After some coercing, Joss finally agrees to go. Upon meeting Ben, all Joss sees is a player and she deflects his attention. But it’s too late for Ben as he sees Joss as more than a conquest.

This was such a sweet love story. I enjoyed the romantic gestures as much as Joss did. For Ben to be such a player, he sure did have genuine charm to him. The character of Joss was complex, making Ben work extra hard to get around her defenses. I could appreciate that. It was more than the thrill of the chase. These two had more in common than they thought. And I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. They were perfect for this story. The history of the origami crane was woven seamlessly in the story, making it that much more interesting.

Dante’s Gift Book Review

Dante's Gift (A Chicago Christmas Book 1)

By Aubrey Wynne

Dante's Gift (A Chicago Christmas Book 1) by [Wynne, Aubrey]
Kathleen James has put her practical side away for once and looks forward to the perfect romantic evening: an intimate dinner with the man of her dreams—and an engagement ring. She is not prepared to hear that he wants to bring his grandmother back from Italy to live with him.
Dominic Lawrence has planned this marriage proposal for six months. Nothing can go wrong—until his Nonna calls. Now he must interrupt the tenderest night of Katie’s life with the news that another woman will be under their roof.

When Antonia’s sister dies, she finds herself longing to be back in the states. An Italian wartime bride from the ‘40s, she knows how precious love can be. Can her own story of an American soldier and a very special collie once again bring two hearts together at Christmas?

...........................................................................
MY REVIEW

Dominic had secretly worked six months putting together an expensive and perfect dinner, to propose to Katie. On the day before the dinner though, his grandmother called to let him know that her sister had died, and then detailed the funeral arrangements. Dominic knew his Nonna had no further reason to stay in Italy and at eighty-eight years old, she did not need to live alone. There was no question about it, he would bring Nonna to Chicago to live with him. He told Katie of his plans before proposing, but she takes the news hard. How can she compete with Dominic’s Nonna? Katie finally decides to give it time, for her and Nonna to get to know each other, and then revisit the proposal.

What a nice love story this was. I wasn’t so sure about Katie at first. She seemed so introverted and maybe even a little selfish. Dominic and his Nonna had a perfect relationship. Being a typical Italian family, I could understand Katie’s hesitation. I love family togetherness, but I think even I would have been intimidated. The best parts of the book would have to be Nonna’s remembering and retelling of her own love story. Her storytelling skills brought it to life.
