MY REVIEW
Joss and her
sister Laura grew up in Papua, New Guinea, but their family moved to Chicago
for Laura to attend a prestigious University. Nine months later, Joss’ mother
died in a car accident. Now, nearly a year later, Joss still avoids social
activities. When her best friend Becky invites Joss to a party that her brother
Ben is giving, she initially turns her down. After some coercing, Joss finally
agrees to go. Upon meeting Ben, all Joss sees is a player and she deflects his
attention. But it’s too late for Ben as he sees Joss as more than a conquest.
This was such a
sweet love story. I enjoyed the romantic gestures as much as Joss did. For Ben
to be such a player, he sure did have genuine charm to him. The character of
Joss was complex, making Ben work extra hard to get around her defenses. I
could appreciate that. It was more than the thrill of the chase. These two had
more in common than they thought. And I loved the quotes at the beginning of
each chapter. They were perfect for this story. The history of the origami
crane was woven seamlessly in the story, making it that much more interesting.
