MY REVIEW

Junior Captain Clay Sonnering has been a pilot for RASH Airlines for nearly twenty years. With his exemplary service, he is hoping to be promoted from Junior to Senior Captain as soon as a spot comes open. Now, as he finally has enough time in, he finds himself in a takeoff incident that could hinder his promotion. How could this happen to him at such a crucial time in his life? Clay now has to prove he is mentally fit enough to keep his job.

This story was at times a bit hard to follow. It went back and forth between characters and incidents, and sometimes I wasn’t sure if something was actually happening now, or if it was a memory. I liked the plot, but the story didn’t hold my interest for very long. Some conversations didn’t make sense to me, and at times, I didn’t know if Clay was sane or not. This is the third book by this author that I have read. I only wish that this book had been as good as the other two. I will continue to read more from Mr. Barton as I know he’s a good writer. I’m just disappointed with this one.

MY REVIEW OF You Watch for James

The unusual title is what caught my eye and drew me to this book. But as soon as I started reading it, the content grabbed hold of my undivided attention. Apparently, I am behind the times. I have never heard of Carpool Karaoke, nor that it is the new rave on YouTube. Before reading any further, I had to go online and see just what the author was raving about. An hour later, I was still watching the hilarious and sometimes awkward videos.

 I am unfamiliar with James Corden, and I have never watched him. But after watching the videos, I can see why he makes the perfect host. It’s clear to me that the reason this works so well is because he is singing along with the actual artist, as opposed to him staging it all himself. That would not interest me at all. And now that you have hooked me, you tell me that there will be a different host. I’m sorry, but I can’t see how changing would help. I agree with the author on that point. Thank you Mr. Barton for introducing me to this form of entertainment. I doubt I would have found it otherwise.

MY REVIEW OF Hans is Dead

This is an essay that the author wrote, expressing his feelings on losing a couple of music icons, and a movie legend. He describes how he felt when he discovered that Glen Frey, co-founder and lead singer of the Eagles had died. He had just gotten over the death of British singer David Bowie. And then soon after, actor Allen Rickman died. Then, there is further discussion of how Rickman is remembered as Professor Snape from the Harry Potter series, and not as Hans Gruber of the Die Hard series.

I enjoyed all the banter about growing up listening to the Eagles music through the years. I share basically the same memories. I also thought Allan Rickman was a very talented actor, and loved him as Hans Gruber. These things I understood. But the essay starts with the author telling of his love of airplanes, and dreams. The dreaming part was confusing. I didn’t know if he was telling a dream, or changing from a human to a bird or something else, maybe the wind. He didn’t translate that very well at all. The subjects didn’t transition together in the plot at all. I think the author needs to work on making that work out more. His writings would certainly be more interesting then.
