One Last Spell Review

One Last Spell

By Raven Snow

One Last Spell
Zelda has sworn never to perform magic again. She's also sworn never to help solve a murder again -- last time she did both, disaster occurred. She's had it with magic, murder, and men.

She's happy with her life now, secluded on the mountainside in the small cozy town of Castlerock. No one bothers her and that's the way she likes it. But when her long lost best friend and police detective Jessica turns up on Zelda's doorstep one day everything changes. Jessica tells her there's been a murder in town and Zelda is the only one who can help.

Last time, things ended in disaster. Zelda's life and relationships were destroyed. Zelda however can't say no to her best friend, especially when she hears that the murder victim is someone Zelda knew - a fellow outcast. Now the case is personal in more ways than one. Zelda agrees to help out but only this one last time.

Zelda meets handsome but bumbling police recruit Josh, and she gets dragged further and further into the mystery, she might just have to rethink her stance on life. Maybe life back with the mortals might not be so bad after all, but things are not all they seem.

Can Zelda solve the case and put her past to rest?
Will Josh prove himself to be worthy of a witch's affections?
Will this really be Zelda's last spell?

MY REVIEW

Zelda is a witch. The only other person to know her secret is her best friend Jessica, who’s a police detective. When Zelda helps Jessica on a case, under the guise of being a psychic, something goes awry and Zelda is blamed. So she drops out of sight and becomes a hermit for a while. Then Jessica entices her by needing her help with a case involving the murder of a suspected witch. But when Zelda tries to help, she starts to doubt her powers. How can what she sees be the truth?

I enjoyed this story, although it felt like I was jumping into the middle of things that had already happened. Of course they were explained later in the book. But that didn’t help me to connect with the characters early enough. It made me suspicious of everyone’s intentions. But then again, isn’t that what a mystery is supposed to do?

The Eye of Horlune Review

Eye of Horlune (Holly Willow #1)

By Raven Snow

Eye of Horlune (Holly Willow #1)
Holly wanted to stay here with him, if not forever then at least for tonight but her quota of luck had just run out.

Meet Holly Willow - a nineteen year old witch who packs a punch. Join her, her dysfunctional group of friends that joins her team and her mission to defeat the evil megacorporation, Valor Incorporated, and stop their leader from obtaining a magical artifact that could give him the power to control or destroy the world.

With some magic, a little corporate espionage, and a whole heap of luck, Holly and her friends will fight for family, love, and the fate of the world...

Novella (approx. 20,000 words). Romance is CLEAN. Raven Snow is known for her Cozy Mysteries. This is an early work, be warned there is some violence, does not have a the "small town" feel of a typical cozy mystery. It is a standalone (reading further volumes not required to enjoy the book).

MY REVIEW

Holly and her friend Megan are doing everything they can to expose the megacorporation Valor Incorporated. On the surface, Valor is an upstanding business, with dealings in various sectors boosting the economy. But Holly knows that Valor is hiding its true intentions, and she won’t stop until it’s revealed.

I love reading stories that have more than one group of characters. This one had witches, djinns, and oracles, all working together to create an interesting plot. Even though it was a short read, there was enough personality for each character to stand on their own. This was an interesting read that kept me entertained.

Roller Rink Witchcraft Review

Roller Rink Witchcraft (Harper “Foxxy” Beck Series Book 1)

By Raven Snow

Roller Rink Witchcraft (Harper "Foxxy" Beck Series Book 1) by [Snow, Raven]
In the small town of Waresville, witches, goblins, and ghouls are money in the townspeople’s pockets. Without the magic stores on every corner and spooky tour bus ride, how would a place nicknamed “Wheresville” survive? But when Harper “Foxxy” Beck, owner of the Funky Wheel and all-around groovy witch, finds her murdered accountant plastered to her floor, the citizens are taught a valuable lesson about creatures that go bump in the night: They kill. Turning Harper’s world on its head, the police arrest someone close to her, and she’s forced to investigate to clear her friend’s name. But as this foxy lady gets closer to the true identity of the killer and the alluring Detective Bennett, the man actually assigned to the case, the quiet town of Waresville turns into a dangerous place for a meddling witch.

Suddenly, her long-standing roller rink is a battleground for a satanic witch, and suspects are popping up everywhere she looks. When a second body appears, shattering everything she thought she knew about the murders, Harper needs to decide who she can trust. With the help of her cape-wearing best friend, her hunky detective, and her terrifying witch of a grandmother, Harper must use the clues before her to solve the case— but in a town with hundreds of years of feuds and spooky happenings, will she be able to dig up the truth before hers is the next head on the chopping block?

The theme of this book is a Supernatural/Paranormal Witch Themed Cozy Mystery. It is a "novella", approx. 20,000 words in length which will typically take the average reader about one hour to read. It is the first volume of the Harper "Foxxy" Beck Mystery Series. This book is a standalone, reading further volumes is not required to resolve or enjoy the book. Romance is clean.

MY REVIEW

Harper Beck loved running her 70’s themed disco roller rink. The “Funky Wheel” was fun and always stayed busy. But then one day Harper opened up to find her accountant dead, duct taped to the rink floor. When one of her employees is arrested for the murder, it’s up to Harper to solve the murder and get her friend out of jail.

This was a fun, quick read. I liked Harper’s spunky attitude. It fit well with the plot. This story was a mystery, detective, and slight romance all rolled into one amusing story. I guarantee you’ll like this one.

Greensmith Girls Review

Greensmith Girls: A Supernatural Witch Cozy Mystery (Lainswich Witches Series Book 1)

By Raven Snow

Greensmith Girls: A Supernatural Witch Cozy Mystery (Lainswich Witches Series Book 1) by [Snow, Raven]
The town of Lainswich is a bizarre place. It’s an insular community and home to a lot of strange happenings. It’s also home to the Greensmith family. Rumor has it that they’re a family of witches. The rumors are right.

Rowen Greensmith moved away to escape her crazy family. She has her own place and a job in tabloid journalism. Things aren’t perfect, but she’s hopeful they’ll improve. When Rowen’s Aunt Lydia calls her with news of a murder, all of that is turned on its head.

During the annual Greensmith family yard sale, Rowen’s Aunt Nadine sold a chest that turned out to have a dead body in it. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the woman she sold it to has now turned up dead! It’s a juicy story, and once Rowen’s boss catches wind of it, Rowen is put on the case.

Now Rowen is thrown back into the life she tried to escape. Everyone in the town of Lainswich remembers her, even the ones she rather wishes didn’t. The only total stranger is a handsome businessman who’s new to town. Unfortunately, he has motives all his own.

If Rowen wants to save her family, she’s going to have to solve not one but two murders. First, though, she’s going to have to deal with the police, suspicious locals, and her crazy family. Knowing Lainswich, there’s a decent chance she’s going to have to deal with quite a bit of the supernatural as well. Rowen is about to be thrown into one of the most hectic weekends of her life. She’ll be lucky if she can make it out in one piece.

The theme of this book is a Supernatural/Paranormal Witch Themed Cozy Mystery. It is a Novel, approx. 40,000 words in length which will typically take the average reader about two hours to read. It is the first volume of the Lainswich Witches Mystery Series. This book is a standalone, reading further volumes is not required to resolve or enjoy the book. Romance is clean.

MY REVIEW

The Greensmith family was well-known in Lainswich as witches. Rowen Greensmith had left that life behind, or so she thought. She gets called back home after two deaths get connected to the family. Once she returns, she remembers just how bazaar her family can be.

This was a quick read that had me curious how it would end, and I wasn’t sure if the family was guilty or not throughout. It had an interesting plot with delightful characters. I liked this family, but I could understand Rowen distancing herself from them. Nevertheless, as always, family comes first.
