The Stars Are Made of Tears Review

The Stars Are Made of Tears

By Kathleen Martin

The Stars Are Made of Tears by Kathleen Martin  features three disparate women facing a major upheaval in their respective lives. Dell is a new mother who is suffering from a postpartum depression that threatens her marriage. Gladys, who was kept indoors by her mother since childhood, is now compelled  to venture outside for the first time in 50 years.  Monica has worked in overdrive as an underwriter for ten years. After making some very costly mistakes, her company forces her to take a few weeks off. Her vacation soon turns into a nightmare.

These women are initially unknown to each other but they eventually cross paths and that meeting changes the course of their lives in the most unexpected way.

MY REVIEW OF The Stars are made of Tears

This is the story of three women, who did not know one another, but eventually come together under different circumstances. Dell is a new mother suffering from post-partum depression. Gladys has lived her entire life in her bedroom, so she is like a child in a grown woman’s body. Then there’s Monica. She lost her family at fourteen years old, and has thrown herself into her job, shunning any social contact. Each have their own crisis, but unforeseen circumstances eventually bring them together.

I liked all three characters. They were different, but were also the same. Even though this story dealt with depression, it had its uplifting moments. I normally don’t enjoy dark reads, but this one kept me fully engrossed. I love when a story has many different facets, but then everything comes together unexpectedly. That’s how this story was. I enjoyed how climactic it was when it all came together.
