Cole's Perfect Puppy: Perfect Puppies Book One by [Crossno, Frances M.]
In this award winning children’s book, author Frances Crossno weaves a delightful tale that uses Cole’s mission to bring the mischievous golden retriever puppy, Scarlet, home to teach children lessons of friendship, sacrifice and the true meaning of God’s perfect love. Both boys and girls with enjoy this story of faith, family and of course - puppies!

Cole’s Perfect Puppy introduces young readers everywhere to Cole, his younger brother Caleb and their new friend Rachel. When Cole meets the “perfect puppy” after a mad chase through the mall, he hopes for her arrival under the tree on Christmas morning. But alas, it’s not meant to be.

Instead, Cole embarks on an adventure to find a way to earn enough money, and get permission, to bring the golden retriever puppy home—learning a few life lessons along the way.

From learning how to be thankful for the gift of his first “pet”, the pot-bellied pig Dandy Danny, to the merits of hard work and the true meaning of the power of prayer, Cole’s journey isn’t without a few hiccups.

Cole's Perfect Puppy is the first in a series of Christian novels for young readers 7-12.

MY REVIEW OF Cole's Perfect Puppy

Cole loved going to the Dog House, the local pet store. He wanted a puppy so badly, and hoped to get one for Christmas. One day, a red lab puppy escaped and caused a fiasco up and down the mall. Cole was the one to catch her, and immediately knew that she was the one for him. But Christmas morning, Cole didn’t get a puppy. He got a potbellied pig. When the owner of the pet store offers Cole a job taking care of the puppies, Cole jumps at the chance. Now, when he makes enough money, he can buy the puppy. Then he will have what he’s always wanted, as long as she doesn’t get sold before he can buy her.

This was a cute, quick story, perfect for young children. I liked how it instilled the notion that all good things come when you have patience and perseverance. I also liked how it included basic bible teachings. Stories involving children and animals warms my heart, and this one surely did. The characters were perfect for the plot. I liked how many different subjects were touched on, giving young readers many lessons to learn about life and daily interactions, without them realizing they’re learning. I can see this book becoming a favorite for many children.
