A Tangled Web Review

A Tangled Web

By Joan Early
A Tangled Web

Wealthy Houston businessman married to a beautiful socialite destroys his family by bringing a young woman into this wife’s bed. Now excluded from the A-list social invitations, the ex-wife finishes the book she started writing years before, and approaches an ex-basketball player known as a broke womanizer who once dated the woman who destroyed her marriage and is now married to her ex-husband. Together, they plot to wreck the ex-husband’s marriage. Anticipated publication of the socialite’s book terrifies the ex-husband and his business partners…and garners interest from the FBI.

***MY HONEST REVIEW OF A TANGLED WEB***

Mariah wanted to make her ex-husband Drake jealous, so she hired Reed Buckner to be her boyfriend. The ploy works. Reed and Mariah become close friends, but Reed wants more. Reed had the reputation of being broke, and a ladies’ man, but Mariah sees through all that. When Mariah announces that she is authoring a book, not only does Drake become outraged, but so does several of his associates. Mariah realizes that they have something to hide, especially when she finds the FBI staking out her house. As things escalate, Mariah draws on Reed’s strength, but always keeping him at arm’s length. What will it take for Mariah to trust Reed’s true intentions?

This was a love story, with a backdrop of scandal, deceit, and malicious lies. The characters were well-rounded. I could tell that Mariah, as well as Reed, had matured deeply by the ending. This was a satisfying read watching the ruthless ones get their comeuppance. I don’t understand why the race card was spotlighted so much, as to me it took a backseat to the story’s true plot. I didn’t need to know each of the characters’ race, to follow the story.
