MY REVIEW
Violet loved
the graveyard, the calming quiet and seclusion of it. She didn’t like people,
being around them, conversing with them, and especially answering their
questions. No, Violet was a loner. Except for her interest in Albert, the
gravedigger. To her, he was the most interesting person in the world. They both
had tragic pasts so Violet felt they were kindred spirits. But then Booth
Rothschild gets hired as a second gravedigger and everything about him gets
under Violet’s skin. And when she starts having visions where the dead are
telling her their stories, she feels like the past is coming back to haunt her.
Or did it ever leave?
One would think
that the plot and characters would be creepy, but I thought it was fascinating.
The character of Violet had a unique personality that was like a magnet. It
drew me in from the beginning. I could read her diatribes all day and not lose
interest. There was so much of the things she said I could relate to. I hated
for this story to end, and I would like for it to be continued in another
story, as the last chapter skipped enough time to easily be able to carry one.
