MY REVIEW
When high
profile literary agent Janet Alden is poisoned at a literary luncheon, there is
no shortage of suspects. Evidence points to Katie Walker though, as she is the
one who gave Alden the salad that was tainted with hemlock. Katie is the protégé
of private investigator Charlie Singer, who has no doubt of her innocence. Charlie
calls in his friend, Los Angeles Detective Russ Fante, for help. Russ has
problems of his own and along with his girlfriend, Summer, decides that now is
a good time to break away and go to New York to lend his support. Since the eye witness is a best-selling author
whose word is gold, proving Katie’s innocence won’t be easy.
I really
enjoyed these characters and liked the leadoff for the next book. However, I
felt lost throughout a good bit of the story. I understood that this was a
second in a series, but there was no explanations as to anything that went on
in the first book. That made it hard to piece together the tragedies from their
past. I didn’t like being in the dark in that aspect, and see it as an
oversight from the author. Otherwise, the mystery was great.
