Kill the Lights Review

Kill The Lights: A Mystery

By David Wahlberg

Beautiful women, a designer clothing industry, and priceless jewelry have attracted the worst of shadowy crime figures and corrupt businessmen. The novel tracks the suffering of innocents who work among the famous and the idle party goers who inhabit a playground of glamorous settings within the western reaches of Los Angeles. The book resonates with realistic portrayals of present day events happening in that world.  The lives of movie stars, fashion models, and undocumented workers are enveloped in the business of fashion retailing. The realism of the book extends to criminals who insinuate themselves in unique and deceptive ways to exploit and corrupt the fashion industry by resorting to any means, including murder. Most of the story centers around the production of a Beverly Hills fashion show.

***MY HONEST REVIEW OF Kill The Lights***

A girl is murdered in the cove. After doing a little investigating, Ty believes it has something to do with Latvian thugs running a sex ring. And who is the Dragon Lady? Is she just a myth, or a well hidden criminal leader? Ty believes she is real and behind an influx of knock-off designer clothing. As Ty participates in a fashion show by providing security for a replica of a five million dollar necklace, he believes there will be trouble. But Ty has it all under control, or does he?

This was a fun plot, with challenging twists, and all levels of scoundrels for characters. I could sympathize with Ty not knowing much about his parents, but I don’t understand why he didn’t push harder to get information on them. It was amusing the way he always parked illegally, but never got towed. I just knew it was going to happen sooner or later. And I really liked the idea of a fashion show with twins modeling together, but wearing slightly different clothing. That is something I would like to see. The descriptions of the eclectic beachgoers had me longing for a day at the beach.
