Aurella the Witch by Anni Sezate

Aurella the Witch

By Anni Sezate

Aurella the Witch by [Sezate, Anni]
Aurella found out she’s a witch… just in time to start a witch hunt.

Twelve years ago, the kingdom of Dovice was purged of magic. All the witches were killed in a massive witch hunt, and evidence of their existence was erased from history. So when Aurella discovers she’s a witch, she’s both confused and frightened. Despite the risk of revealing herself, Aurella uses her powers to protect her only friend from a dangerous situation and accidentally sets in motion another witch hunt, making her the key target.

With few allies and an entire country against her, Aurella flees north in hopes of finding Rashtica, the alleged kingdom where her kind live in peace. But Aurella can’t run forever, and if she doesn’t learn to embrace her power, the witch hunt she brought about could be her bitter end.

MY REVIEW

Twelve year old Aurella had been bullied her entire life. Her only friend was Mavic, a fifteen year old orphan. Mavic was always getting into fights because he stood up for himself. And he always stood up for Aurella when he was around. All the kids called Aurella a witch, even though she wasn’t one. But when she accidentally casts a spell in public, she finds out that she most certainly is a witch. Now, she and Mavic are fugitives on the run from clankers, the King’s enforcement officers. If caught they will be hung. Their only chance is to make it to Rashtica, where surviving witches fled to in the past to survive the last witch hunt.

I enjoyed this story immensely. The more characters introduced, the more interesting the story got. The camaraderie between Aurella and Mavic was well written. And even though that was great, the fun part started when they joined the group of protesters. I really loved Bev’s character, and hope that it carries on into the next chapter of Aurella and Mavic’s journeys. These characters have more limitations than witches normally have. That’s what makes this series stand out from other witch related ones. I look forward to the next book of the series.
